Our mission

The Hope Dealer Project exists to restore hope, save lives, and strengthen communities by supporting individuals and families affected by substance use disorder through prevention, intervention, treatment navigation, recovery support, and advocacy. Through direct assistance, peer support, and our flagship statewide initiative, West Virginia Goes Purple, we mobilize communities to reduce stigma, promote prevention, and celebrate recovery. In 2023, West Virginia became the first state in U.S. history to unite all 55 counties under one recovery awareness movement—transforming a state once defined by overdose statistics into a national symbol of hope, unity, and recovery. We believe every life has value, every recovery journey deserves support, and every community has the power to create lasting change.

Impact story

Every day, our phone rings with someone facing what may be the hardest moment of their life. Sometimes it's a mother whose child has overdosed. Sometimes it's a father who has finally reached the point where he's ready for treatment after years of addiction. Other times, it's a grandparent suddenly raising grandchildren because addiction has torn a family apart. For many, we are not the first call—they've already been told "no" by everyone else. We strive to be the organization that says, "Let's figure this out together." Since 2015, The Hope Dealer Project has worked alongside individuals and families across West Virginia, helping remove the barriers that stand between crisis and recovery. We connect people with detox, treatment, medication-assisted recovery, transportation, sober living, recovery resources, peer support, employment assistance, and other essential services. We also stand beside families after the unthinkable happens, offering compassionate support following an overdose loss when they often feel forgotten and alone. Recognizing that lasting change requires more than individual recovery, we launched West Virginia Goes Purple—a statewide movement dedicated to prevention, education, reducing stigma, and celebrating recovery. In 2023, West Virginia became the first state in U.S. history to unite all 55 counties under one recovery awareness initiative, transforming communities across the state into visible symbols of hope during National Recovery Month. Our impact has never been measured solely by the number of people we serve. It is measured in the lives reclaimed, the families reunited, the overdoses prevented, the stigma challenged, and the communities that now choose hope over silence. Despite our statewide reach and growing impact, The Hope Dealer Project receives no federal or state operating funding. Every act of hope we provide is made possible through volunteers, community partnerships, and generous donors who believe that every person deserves a chance at recovery and every family deserves someone to walk beside them. Today, we continue answering the calls that others cannot—because hope should never depend on someone's ability to pay, where they live, or whether anyone else answered the phone.
