Second Hand Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue dedicated to the rehabilitation and lifelong care of neglected, abandoned, and surrendered farm animals, with a primary focus on pigs. Our mission is to offer a peaceful, permanent haven where these animals can heal and thrive, while inspiring compassion and community engagement through education, visitor outreach, and hands-on volunteer opportunities.
Impact story
Meet Moe. Moe is a 17-year-old senior pig who came to us needing a safe place to land for his twilight years. In the commercial or casual livestock world, senior animals with declining health are frequently cast aside or euthanized when they require specialized care. But we believe every life deserves a dignified, peaceful chapter. Today, Moe lives a life of pure comfort in Honea Path. Because of our dedicated donors and the hard work of our "Mud and Love Crew" volunteers, senior residents like Moe receive custom diets, specialized veterinary attention, and all the belly rubs they can handle. Instead of being forgotten, Moe spends his days napping in cozy straw blankets, rootin' in the mud, and acting as an ambassador for senior farm animals everywhere. By supporting Second Hand Sanctuary, you aren't just funding food and fences—you are buying peace, comfort, and a safe retirement for animals who have nowhere else to turn.
