Safe & Sound Ministries is a 501c3 nonprofit corporation formed in 2019 to assist with the quality of life of mentally ill and/or special needs individuals. Our services include or will include housing and/or housing advocacy, healthcare treatment advocacy, training and support for guardians of legally incapacitated or developmentally disabled individuals, and support for mentally ill individuals who are or have been incarcerated to improve recidivism in our community.
Impact story
When Keanna arrived at Gage House, she carried the weight of loss of her mother, drug use, and living on the streets in Arizona. She had survived instability, disability‑related challenges, and long stretches without support. What she needed most was a place where she could rebuild her life with dignity, safety, and encouragement. At Safe & Sound Ministries, she found that. As she settled into stable housing, Keanna began participating in community life — first quietly, then with growing confidence. She soon became an essential volunteer in both our bus ministry and our special‑needs caregiving ministries. Her gentle presence, patience, and willingness to serve made her a steady source of comfort for participants who needed extra support. One day, after watching how delighted several of our special‑needs adults were with their stuffed animals, Keanna had an idea: a Build‑A‑Bear project where each bear would include an encouraging message or a recorded song inside. She wanted people who struggled — like she once did — to have something soft, comforting, and personal to hold onto. Her idea wasn’t just creative; it was deeply compassionate, shaped by her own lived experience. As she continued volunteering, Keanna’s confidence grew. She began talking about her future with hope instead of fear. She started exploring educational opportunities. And now, with brand‑new courage and belief in her abilities, Keanna is applying to graduate school — something she once thought was impossible. Keanna’s story shows the heart of Safe & Sound’s impact: when vulnerable adults are given stability, dignity, and a community that believes in them, they don’t just recover — they rise, they contribute, and they begin dreaming again.
