Our mission

ReCover Girls Outreach exists to stand in the gap for women rebuilding their lives after addiction and trauma. We are building the first women‑led recovery home in our rural community — a safe place where healing, dignity, and new beginnings take root, and where no woman has to rise alone.

Impact story

ReCover Girls began in 2022 when my friend, Lara Stephens, a woman in long‑term recovery, created a small online support group for women seeking hope and connection. What started as a simple social media space quickly grew into a lifeline for thousands of women across the world, all recovering from something. I found that group when I was just three months clean from addiction. In that space, I discovered the mentorship, accountability, and sisterhood I desperately needed. Over time, I grew from a participant to a leader within the community, eventually stepping into the role of Executive Director and Co‑Founder as our vision expanded. As our online community grew, we were very open about our recovery because we just knew our stories just may help another woman walking the path we have. That's when women from our rural Texas communities began reaching out for help. They weren’t asking for much — just a safe place to heal from addiction and trauma. But the reality was heartbreaking: There were no residential recovery options for women anywhere nearby. Every time a woman asked for help, Lara and I had no choice but to send her hours away, uprooting her from her children, her family, and the very support system that could have helped her succeed. We watched women lose hope simply because rural communities lacked the resources available in larger cities. Eventually, we reached a breaking point. We were tired of saying, “There’s nothing here for you. We’ll have to send you two hours away.” So, we decided to change that. We talked, planned, and approached the city of Hempstead, Texas, with our proposal. ReCover Girls Outreach was born from that gap — from the belief that women in rural communities deserve access to recovery, dignity, and healing without being torn away from their lives. Today, Lara and I are working to build the first women‑led residential recovery home in our rural area, creating a place where women can heal close to home, surrounded by compassion, structure, and community. This mission is deeply personal to me. I will soon graduate with my BA in Psychology with a concentration in addictions and trauma, equipping me to serve women who stand in the very place I once stood. Our story is simple but powerful: When no one else was building a place for rural women to recover, we chose to build it ourselves.
